Tino shelves, 2009

aluminium, , Nextel, stainless steel

limited editions

Once the Tino shelves are full, they become invisible. They carry heavy weights, like books, the slender columns acting as struts. The columns are placed between the shelves at irregular intervals, though never directly above each other, else the set of shelves would collapse like a house of cards. The light, airy construction achieves stability through an empirical process of removing columns and reducing the diameter of those remaining to find the limit beyond which the piece will no longer remain standing.
