l’Armoire, cupboard, 1999
aluminium and polypropylene
limited edition
A box with two doors. What sets it apart is the fact that it consists of a single sheet, folded like a cardboard box. The piece began with the designer’s instinct that he could do without traditional door hinges by using a material of sufficient flexibility, normally used for quite a different purpose. A computer program was designed to groove, drill, and cut the sheet using digital technology. Then all that remained was to fold up the sheet to make the wardrobe—a transformation.
