Can a piece of furniture act as a pedestal?
Socle (Pedestal) and Échelle (Ladder) are part of the “six constructions” collection, designed to bear the weight of people, who need to be raised off the ground to sit, to lie down, to work, and to reach objects when standing up, or to carry objects that need to be contained, tidied away, or put on display.
Socle is sized in relation to the human body, sharing the same scale. Échelle combines the scale of the body and that of the object, underlining the continuity between the two. The materials used for the piece —the sleek lines of the steel bodywork and the aluminum honeycomb with a translucent fiberglass veneer— are not traditionally associated with domestic use. The items are not destined for any particular space: they come from nowhere and are at home anywhere.
